I tried to resist, I really did, but the siren song of another Urban Decay palette was too much to resist. I am an unabashed fan girl of this brand. I loved the ads when I was a teenager and I became a devotee of the brand when I was living in the UK a decade ago (the smog eyeshadow is still one of my absolute favorites!)
So I was pretty heartbroken when the UD Junkie Vice Lipstick Palette was sold out super quick at Sephora. My wallet might have been happy, but my heart, my heart, was shattered! How could I possibly live without a limited-edition lip palette with 12 shades of the new UD formula?! All housed in a glamorous, gold-accented gunmetal case to boot!
I recommend this palette. The new vice formula is highly pigmented without being cakey. I’m actually taken by surprise every time I use this palette with how gorgeously light the formula is. Whether I can attribute this feeling to the application with the retractable lip brush or the actual lipstick itself, is yet to be determined but love is love, so I will try not to question it!
The downside to this palette? Some of the colors are pretty ‘out there’ for a mild mannered mom and office worker … but so help me, I’m going to be rocking some sweet lippie looks on girls’ nights and New Years Eve!
I will also take the brand’s advice to play around and combine the colors to dial up and deepen hues. The possibilities are endless! I find the compact a little bit too bulky for my everyday purse but it is sturdy enough to pack away in luggage for a vacation – I can’t get bored with 12 lipstick shades during a vacay!
Right now I’m loving the shade Carnal (a medium warm nude) and my daughter’s favorite shade for mommy to wear is 714 (bright red).
If you are looking to treat yourself I highly recommend getting this $45 CAD palette with Bite Beauty’s Line and define lip primer for $25 CAD. $75 CAD for 12 luxury lip shades is a pretty decent price in my books. What do you think?
Nothing notes the change of the season quicker than Nov 1st in Canada. Since we celebrate Thanksgiving mid-October there is nothing stopping stores from getting out their X-mas gear ASAP when the last trick or treaters pass by the house.
I was actually in the mall October 28th and was shocked to see most of the Halloween items on clearance to make way for the Christmas merchandise!
I love Halloween and I’m not ready to say good-bye to it just yet! So I going to tell you about a pretty make-up costume I did with Nat this year. Our costume was the idiom ‘Green with Envy’. So we donned our best green and black clothes and make-up and had the words ‘NV’ on ourselves.
I thought this would be an easy and pretty costume to pull off. I have a vast make-up collection and access to Instagram and Pinterest so I thought I was all set. But not so! Green is a very difficult color to wear. We are always trying to cover up green tones in our skin because it can make us look sickly (in my case I vacillated between looking dead or beat up …. eep). I think because green is so tough to wear that a lot of make-up companies don’t use it. I had a lot of blue/green or brown/green colors to work with but very few other options! Calamity!
All in all, I have to say I was saved by the Stila in the Garden palette and Urban Decay Spectrum and Alice Through the Looking Glass palettes. Stila had pretty green accent colors and Urban Decay offered the bold colors I wanted for my look. My whole face was done with eyeshadows from these 3 palettes in combinations too crazy to recount.
Products from Urban Decay’s collaboration with Disney for the “Alice Through the Looking Glass” collection.
The Urban Decay Alice Through the Looking Glass Eyeshadow and Lipsticks were a fun buy for me. I’m slightly obsessed with Alice in Wonderland. I’ve reread the original book, watched the Disney cartoon, and I adore the distinctive Burton aesthetics of the new movies. So when Urban Decay came out with these gorgeous palettes I couldn’t resist. I mean even the packaging is fun! Its a psychedelic kaleidoscope of glorious imagination. It’s everything I would want my rabbit hole to look like.
But then I suffered buyers remorse. The collection is pretty wacky and at $75 CAD for the eyeshadow palette and $21 CAD each for the lipsticks I felt a little queasy at the possible waste. I have enough make-up items collecting dust. I don’t need to add a reallllly expensive ornament to my make-up trolley. What I didn’t expect was how WEARABLE this collection is. I’m having a blast with it 🙂
HAHAHAHAHA! I’ve conquered another Beauty Insider Appreciation Event at Sephora! And like all good rampaging viking-like characters I am celebrating my plunder by getting drunk (accidentally okay?!) But yes, I am feeling the high that only craft beer and a bunch of new beauty products can give you and I can’t WAIT to tell you all about it!
It’s my birthday today (still in my ‘early’ thirties whoo!) and I got the original Naked Palette from thoughtful Nat. Since I’m such an Urban Decay fan girl I’m stoked that I’ve finally completed the Naked Series Triumvirate. And what a series! The Naked palettes are pricey at $64 CAD a pop but sooooo worth it. You can create so many looks from day to night and the double ended brush that is included is amaze-ballz!
Since it’s my birthday and I feel like I can do whatever I want I plan to honour the Urban Decay Naked Palette Series with a silly poem of my own devising. So read of if you feel like a chuckle!
I find it hard to believe that June is coming to an end, where did it go??? I’ve been loving quite a few things this month, I hope you enjoy these like I do!!
Bath and Body Work 3-Wick Candle in Coastal Sun
A new scent from the summer collection, this one is a winner. A bit of a lemon-sweet smell (I suck at describing scents if you haven’t noticed lol) this one I could plunge my nose in and just smell it all day. I found it when I went tot he semi-annual sale and then I had to go back and get 3 more so I can be stocked up. Yup. Crazy lady over here. I have learned that once you find a smell you love, you stock up!
The ‘fandamonium’ first began after my daughter did something unspeakably gross, in public and all over me, so I decided that I deserved some pretty new make-up. THEN Sephora had a crazy Tarte sale and I HAD to buy things.
So the theme of this month is all things Tarte!
Limited-Edition Rainforest After Dark Colored Clay Eye & Cheek Palette
LUUUUUURVE this palette! The best thing about it is that it doesn’t ‘dust up’ and contaminate the neighboring colours. It has great pigment and a nice velvety feel. It’s also very balanced with a user friendly amount of matte and shimmers.
Can a girl ever have enough eyeshadows? (The answer to that question is a resounding “NOPE!”)
The problem is that there are just sooooo many options for eyeshadows and so many different shades and finishes that it can honestly get pretty confusing.
Our eyelids aren’t the easiest body part to decorate either. Eyelids are thin, creased, pigmented, oily, and close to tear ducts so your eyeshadow doesn’t only have to be a pretty colour; it has to be able to withstand a very unhospitable make up environment! You need/deserve an eyeshadow that stays true to its’ colour and delivers on logevity.
So the question is how do you test that in the store?
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that my steps for picking a good quality eyeshadow are the SAME if you’re trying cream, loose, or the more popular pressed powder formulas. You should swatch eyeshadows on the inside of your wrist (or pulse point) because the skin there is delicate, thin, and you can easily test crease-ability with a flick of your wrist. It also boasts discoloration from veins so you can really test the shadow’s coverage.
Oh my goodness it’s SUNNY OUT! The baby, dogs and I are loving our daily walks and meeting the neighbours! And one must keep up appearances mustn’t we? I’m finding that nothing is easier or more time effective then putting on a pretty lip colour to take my look from plain to polished! So here’s my top four beauty lip picks for this month!
Stila Lip Glaze in Raspberry
I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to talk about this amazing product that Nat got me into last year. I guess I use them so frequently they’ve been a no brainer part of my ‘quickie glam’ routine which meant that they’ve been *gasp* overlooked! At any rate I’m going to talk about them now – specifically the Raspberry shade – looks like a scary glitter plum shade but is AMAZING on! It adds just the right amount of depth and shine to glam up a plum lipstick look or temper too pale lips. I think it’s one of those amazing shades that will compliment anyone! It also doesn’t hurt that the lip gloss comes in a nifty click pen (no mess!) and has a yummy fruity scent.
Tarte Lipsurgence Skintuitive Lip Gloss
OK this awesome lip colour does just what is advertised. It really does create a “personalized pop of high-gloss, natural-looking pigment.” I’ve been lucky enough to snag two sample sizes of this amazing product by using my sephora points – WINNING! It also doesn’t hurt that it moisturizes and lasts! Once my samples run out I will be putting this product in my check out basket.
Urban Decay Naked Ultra Nourishing Lipgloss in Sesso
I’m loving the full size lip gloss I got in my Urban Decay Naked on the Run Palette. It’s super nourishing and has a beautiful high shine finish! The rose/pink shimmer is awesome for my complexion for casual wear but the final look is so polished that I would wear it to a party as well. Unfortunately it appears that this is a limited edition colour so you have to buy the kit to get it. However the formula is so great that I would totally invest in more of these lovely glosses.
Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint in Elite
This coral colour is brighter than my usual neutral shades but this hydrating lip stain formula and pencil format has me wearing it all the time! I got this cool lip tint when I treated myself to the ‘Meet Your Match’ Set from Sephora. The set is amazing but the standout is this stain. When Tarte says stain they MEAN stain. One application kept my lips hydrated and pretty in pink through a grocery shopping trip, playtime, kisses for my loved ones, dinner, and tea! I think my lips only started to fade after my shower! Did I mention how much I love the pencil technology? I was able to fill in my lips without the worry of the typical stain bleed out. Seriously someone needs to stop me from ordering all of them right now … the Sephora page is open beside me … hide the credit card!
As you can tell April has been a lip happy month. I’m just really starting to get into lippies and I can say that I’m happy I did. Yay for Sunshine and Yay for Lippie Technology!
Well I finally bit the bullet and shelled out $64 CAD for the Naked On The Run Palette by Urban Decay. This limited-edition, all-in-one travel palette boasts FIVE eyeshadows, a blush, a bronzer, a highlighter, an eyeliner, a lip gloss, and a mascara—everything needed for a complete your look. This is Holy Grail material right? That’s what I thought too but I’m sadly going to have to give this kit 4 out of 5 stars since it’s truly geared to a warm – toned, medium and tanned complexion not a cool-toned, fair, ghost white complexion of yours truly.
Like all Urban Decay products the quality is there. The case is sturdy and compact. Great for travel and even for tucking into medium sized purses.
I have to admit i was feeling a little wistful for a trip down South when I picked up the Sephora Favourites: Summer Stash kit from the Sales section. It originally retailed for $54 CAD ($147.00 value) and now was a steal at $36.00. I was also running low on my NARS Laguna bronzer and this kit had a mini version inside for cheaper than buying the bronzer on it’s own. So in my mind this was a no brainer!
And to be honest, this kit could be my ‘Summer Time/Down South’ Holy Grail! The bag is cute, compact, and sturdy enough. It has a good zipper, is flexible in overstuffed luggage, and is made of that thicker canvas type fabric. It pretty much covers everything you need to go from lounging by the pool to a nice dinner out.
Why am I saying this this kit is only for summer time or vacationing in the sun? It’s because the colours are a little bit bright for an everyday look. When I was trying the kit all i could think of was “If I was a mermaid these are the colours I would use”. Which is lovely, but it’s not the kind of look for a marathon shopping spree in NYC during February.
So let’s look at the individual products:
Being in my 9th month of pregnancy for this hectic month meant that beauty had to be achieved on a tight time budget. Year end at work was nuts with 10-12 hour-long work days being followed by Christmas Socials and other holiday events made this VERY pregnant lady eager to put her feet up and sleep more often than stick to a firm beauty routine. Here are my top five beauty products that got me through this crazy month:
Smashbox Limitless Liquid Liner Pen was a great way to add drama to my eye makeup that I had already worn to work. It’s a long-wearing, waterproof liquid liner pen that can easily create a subtle enhancement of a super glam pin-up look. I love that it has ‘magic marker’ tip instead of a brush. This ‘precision tip’ provides smooth and controlled application while also providing constant color dispersion. It’s an easy tool to create a quick, pretty, and dramatic holiday look.
A true wine-stained lip is never a good look. They look NOTHING like proper lip stains and are usually accompanied by a hangover. Even after a good night out, life inevitably needs to go on and most of us still need to leave the house whether or not we look our best. And for those ‘common sense people’ out there who decide not to drink red wine … I’m sorry, that’s just not an option for me and some other awesome people I know.
My mother doesn’t drink. So it makes sense that she didn’t teach me how to prevent/obliterate wine stained lips. So I had to figure it out the hard way, through trial and error. Hopefully these tips will keep you looking fabulous and not regretting that extra (and sometimes necessary!) glass of merlot from the night before.
I have found that while pregnancy can give me an amazing glow (i.e. I’m sweatier) it has also changed my skin and face. I compare pregnancy to hitting puberty again. Everything looks different and let’s be honest, you’re too moody to really give a poop. BUT I’ve discovered that you MUST give a proverbial poop because otherwise the ‘nosy/concerned brigade’ of coworkers, family, acquaintances, and in-laws emerge and tell you how terrible you look and then proceed to list many different diseases that you and the baby might have. So in order not to alienate yourself from possible baby shower gifts with some ill-worded rebukes, I will share with you how I got my work mates to stop telling me how ‘tired and run down’ I looked to telling me that I looked ‘glowing’ and that ‘pregnancy must agree with me’. What’s the old adage – if you don’t got it? Fake it!
My September Favorite pick is the Naked 2 lip liner by Urban Decay. It’s creamy (so great for covering up changing season chapped lips!) and it’s long lasting. The beige/apricot nude shade is very flattering for pale skin tones with pink undertones. It’s the perfect lip companion for those trying out the Paris Fashion Week 2014 natural make up look.
The natural look may seem easy, however, to do it WELL requires subtle definition and contouring so that your naturally beautiful features stand out. Most nude liners are ashy and make my pale lips disappear in my pale face. Since Urban Decay’s Naked 2 liner has a peachy tone, rather than the traditional ash of most nude liners, I’m able to effortlessly add warmth and definition to my lips. This liner is perfect for Fall and nailing the trendy natural look!
