Nat’s August 2016 Favourites

I can’t believe the summer is over.. teachers and kids are going back to school and September and Fall are around the corner. The summer here has been soooo hot and humid.. We only get a months of warm weather and it was so hot, it was not enjoyable to be outside. boo. Ah well. We complain when its cold and we complain when its hot, life of a Canadian!

Anywayzzzzz, I have been decluterring and some of this stuff comes from that. I love rediscovering things that have been forgotten in the abyss of the collection. So here we go!

Marcelle Sun Bronzer

I was really NOT sold on this bronzer and frankly didn’t want to use it because I was not a fan of bronzers that have shimmer in them. Well, I was wrong. I was doing a daily look that I found left me pretty one-toned. Since I had just decluttered my bronzers (spoiler ahead), and I put this bronzer in the “need to use more” pile before getting rid of it. Well, now this is going in my “keep” pile. It gave me enough colour to not look dead without looking over done. I just swirl my brush in all the colours to apply it to my bronzer areas (hehe) and I use the side of my brush to grab some of the bottom colour to use as a highlighter.

Nat’s July 2016 Favourites

So I can finally stop my tune of “I haven’t been using makeup” that I have been saying the the last couple months, thank you July! I have been getting back into the swing of things and LOVING IT! I missed it so much lol. I have a few favourites which are things that I have taken out of the collection to play with and try. It has been fun and I can’t wait to finish cleaning/decluttering my beauty room to play with more treasures in my collection. I am sure that are some hiding there.

essence silky touch blush in 20 babydoll

It’s no secret that I like these essence blushes! This is a beautiful soft pink that is on the neutral side. It has a sheen that gives a nice glow to the cheek that made me instantly fall in loved with this shade. You can’t go wrong with this blush in colour and in price – $4.99.

Nat’s June Favourites – My Fav 5 Min Look

Hey beauty lovers. I know I say this every month, but man, I can’t believe the month is over.. half the year gone! It is crazy how time flies and I find I notice it more with my daughter that changes every day.

This month, I decided to do my favourites differently since I have been very lazy with my makeup this month. When I leave the house, the ponytail/5 sec makeup look so I don’t look half dead look is what I go for. Having said that, this is what my favs are this month, the look I create to be presentable to the world and try to get away while baby allows me.

This is a very quick look that I do sometimes in the morning if I know I am going somewhere or someone is coming over. I usually get about 30 mins after I give my baby girl her reflux meds to get dressed, brush my teeth, do my hair and makeup, change her and warm up a bottle. So I have to be quick!

Battle of the Brow Gels!

Ding ding ding!!! Let the battle brows begin! I like the coloured gel products on the market now. I find them easy on a day-to-day look when I don’t want to sculpt/define my brows like on a full makeup day. I usually go straight for my benefit Gimme Brow, which I adore (more on it below) but I was prompted to look into an alternative when I saw that the canadian price for it went up from $28 to $30, which prompted me to look for cheaper alternatives.. pff $28 was already expensive enough.. thank you canadian dollar…  So I found 3 alternatives (without looking really hard..) from drug store to high end. Let’s get into it!

Let me start by saying that if you are in Canada, all of them hold the pro of being able to purchase them at Shoppers Drug Mart where you can eventually use your points and get it for free. So whatever option you chose for you, you could always get it with points!

My other point is that these are all tinted brow gels meant to fill in your brows. They need brow hair to adhere to. If you have little eyebrow hair, this product won’t do much for you and may not be right for you.

They’re Back! – La Chatelaine Hand Creams!

Last year I posted about these creams (see post here), and they are back again at Costco. When I saw these come back, I had to pick one up for my mom, sister-in-law and myself for Christmas.

To know more details about the creams, go see my last post, where I rave about these. But I will say this: I have absolutely fallen in love with these hand creams. The claims are true, they are not greasy and absorb very quick into the skin leaving them feeling soft and hydrated. These are made in France, are completely cruelty free and are made with a blend of 20% organic shea butter and argan oil that moisturizes and repairs dry skin.

The $10 Weekly – Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base

The Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow base is likely the most inexpensive eye primer that I’ve personally come across. It’s only $2.99! I’ve been wanting to try this one for so long but never got around to it because eyeshadow primer is so easy to come by. I have 4 or 5 sitting around waiting to be used up… It’s kind of embarrassing… Eventually I broke down and picked this one up for the sake of this blog 🙂 So you’re welcome!

The $10 Weekly – Essence Lipstick and Lip Liner

The Essence Lip Stick and Eye Liner combined were $6.48! What a great price!! The lip stick is in the shade “06 Barely There” for $3.49 and the lip liner is “06 Satin Mauve” for $2.99. I had previously reported that I did not like Essence lip sticks. That’s because I picked up one from the line called “Sheer Shiny Lipstick” without realizing it. My complaint was that it basically performed like a lip gloss without the benefits of a gloss… and well, was tween-like. When I realized my error I thought I’d give them another shot with the correct line of lip sticks – the Essence Longlasting Lipstick line!

real Techniques Expert Face Brush

I have had this brush for a while now, but have now just rediscovered it. It used to sit in my collection, just waiting and begging to be used, until one day, it had its time to shine! The reason it was sitting there, is that I had tried to use it for liquid foundation and it didn’t work for me. It left streaks and did not look good. But, on a daily basis I like to use the Kat Von D Lock-it Tattoo Powder Foundation because it is quick and does a good job for my everyday at work look. I was using the sponge applicator that came with it until I got sick of it and reached for this brush. It is perfect. It is nice and dense, good for buffing and applying the product evenly and as opaque as it should be. I don’t find that it thins out the product. So now I only apply the powder foundation with this brush! I am happy because it is a drugstore brush sold for only $9 USD and also affordable in Canada.

The $10 Weekly – Essence Smokey Eyes Set & Essence Lash Princess

I haven’t played with Essence in a little while now. They’re a UK brand that you can find at Shoppers Drugmart. Most of their products are less than $5 each! I love trying them out because they have a few gems in their collection and well… $5! You can’t beat that! This time I picked up the Lash Princess Mascara for $4.99 and the Smokey Eyes Set for $3.99. I got the shade 02 Smokey Day. I tested them out for my usual work day and here’s what I got!

Yay or Nay Sunday – Essence Lash & Brow Gel Mascara

Before I get into this week’s Yay or Nay Sunday, I just want to give a shout out to all the fathers out there. Happy Father’s Day! A special shout out to my dad, I love you so much, and also to my brother-in-law who is celebrating his first Father’s Day!

This week we have a Nay, yes readers, a Nay. Well I guess it’s more a “meh” than a full-out Nay…

The Essence Lash & Brow Gel Mascara is the feature of this post. I’ve read some reviews and after putting this to the test… I don’t think I agree with most people.

The packaging is super cute, I love the blue and the see through container. I like seeing the brush and how much product is left however I can see that it can get dirty very quickly. Since this is a product you would put on after your brows are done, the brush will get dirty and then so will the tube and clear liquid (but maybe you don’t mind that!).

The $10 Weekly – Essence Gel Eyeliner + Brush

The Essence Gel eyeliner came recommended to me from a comment made by a reader on a previous post that I made regarding Essence products (thanks for your feedback! I really enjoy getting ideas from people!). I picked it up from my local Shoppers Drugmart for $3.99 and also grabbed the brush for it for $2.49. That’s a great deal! You get gel eyeliner and a brush for less than $10!

Yay or Nay Sunday – essence Dark Romance Cream Highlighter

So I have to be more disciplined and really put an item asides every week or every month to test out for Yay or Nay Sunday. I love this series and its opportunity to give you honest feedback about what works and what doesn’t. Let’s face it, not every product out there is a hit. I have been a little lazy the last couple weeks and getting up later than usual for work, so it doesn’t allow time to play with new stuff, so I just reach for what I know and already love. But recently, I picked up this essence Dark Romance Cream Highlighter on clearance for $2.49 at Shoppers Drug Mart and decided not to wait and to test this baby out right away.
