This is one of my favourites drawers. I loved how I organized it and I love how pretty the blushes look. I have tons, looks like it came up to 94, and I think that is too much for blush (duh!). What I mean tho is that there is only a certain amount of shades you can have in blush.. it is not as versatile as eyeshadows. I say that, however, I had trouble with this one… lol. I have many that are pretty.
I tried to made this post so that if you didn’t want to read all my explanations of why am I keeping, passing along or putting in the need to use more pile, you could just scroll down and see the story in pictures (I added captions so you know what I am keeping and what I am not).
Before, 91 and 3 palettes (after pictures at the end)
Behold, my collection!! Can you see why it is so hard to go through.. where do I even start? What I decided to do was to group some together, randomly brand by brand and just go through them and decide what I want to keep and not in each batch. This is both less overwhelming for me and also easier to pass along info to you guys in a written format.
This monthly favourites will include my February and March ones since I missed them last month. I have been getting back into makeup and it feels good especially since my stay at the hospital. Since giving birth and getting out of the hospital, some days I do minimal, some days I go all out. So this has allowed me to bring some old favourites and new ones. So let’s get to it!
Of course my favourite of the month is my beautiful little princess Leia born early on March 3 🙂
Make Up For Ever Step 1 Equalizer – Redness Correcting Primer
With pregnancy, I had major red nose going on (thank you hormones for the nose swelling…) and my cheeks have more red blotches. My nose was also very dry due to getting a cold in Feb and also due to the nasal swelling during pregnancy, there was no fixing it until this baby came. So off on the hunt I went to find a combination that wouldn’t dry out my nose more and would help the redness. Any concealer I tried, no matter how creamy, just made it worse, so I pulled this sample out. Bingo! It reduces the redness and doesn’t dry out my nose. It doesn’t take it all away, at that point, I didn’t think any product would, but it did help. It also didn’t make it dry so that when I applied my foundation, it didn’t accentuate all my dry nose spots.
2015 was an exciting year for me. In January I gave birth to my first child, by August I had made two new friends, in October I went on a holiday to Florida, by December I had lost over 55lbs (half baby weight/half ‘I ate too much’ weight), and throughout the year I bought ALOT of make-up (VIB ROUGE FOR LIFE!). All in all it’s been an unforgettable year of firsts and fabulousness. I tried out new products and brands and I was blown away by most and dissapointed by some. In this post I’m going to do a 2015 fave list and then talk about some make-up regrets.
There’s a lot of compromises you have to make as a new mom and one thing I wasn’t willing to compromise was looking/feeling good about myself. I made an effort every day to shower, get dressed, and apply at least a little bit of make-up. Now this didn’t happen everyday but I have to say I can count those bad days on one hand … (the Cheerios incident will live on forever in its infamy). I am also lucky enough to live in a community with lots of parks and city sponsored drop ins and library groups so I always had someplace to go. B.B. (Before Baby) I went for bolder brands, but during 2015 I embraced softer, build-able products that would look great at a park or on a date. I also liked products that wouldn’t wipe off onto baby.
So without further ado, Missy’s favorite brands of 2015 are
They get top marks for high quality natural looking colors that go on soft and are layer-able. Special mention goes out to their lip gloss and Royal Wardrobe palette
I loooooooove their lipsurgence line. The lip gloss/liner/crayon are gorgeous, moisturizing, and they last! I also picked up a holiday pack of 12 eyeliners which I use pretty much every day. I have no idea why they didn’t do another holiday pack like that but their loss. I also am starting to see the allure of their eye shadows which go on soft at first and then build to a beautiful lasting color.
Their cheek pop line is cute and perfect for creating a pretty flushed face. Their Chubby Eye Pencil in beige is part of my five minute face routine and it is the perfect travel companion.
I don’t think you’ll ever see me part with my ‘Hello Flawless’ powder foundation or ‘Instant Brow Pencil’. They are just good products! I’m now a fan of their industrial strength ‘Boi-ing’ concealer and ‘Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow’ liquid foundation which is proving to be awesome at covering up the lumpiest of hormonal acne flare-ups.
And now here’s the stuff that I wasn’t so fond of
#1 Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Lip Pencil in Ozone (Clear) … this product kind of makes me feel like the ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’ fool. Is it working? I don’t know! I really can’t see a difference between this clear pencil and using nothing. I love my other 24/7 lip pencil but I would never purchase a clear one again. If anything I find it highlights any dryness on my lips. So blech.
#2 Burberry. Burberry was a HUGE let down. I purchased one of their kits and it was just meh. nothing really swatched well and the products certainly did not last. I would hesitate before buying any of their pricey products again.
#3 Benefit ‘World Famous Neutrals Palette in Sexiest Nudes Ever’ . It was just a badly chosen palette. First of all I wouldn’t consider really any of the colors nude except for the beige cream shadow. The colors just really don’t pair well on my eyes. I would wear them alone with other make-up but I find that defeats the purpose of the palette.
All in all 2015 was a great make-up year. I definitely had more loves then regrets! I hope 2016 brings some exciting new make-up my way!
This was a slow month for me with makeup. I spent half of October in Florida where minimal makeup happened while visiting the Disney parks and through the heat. However, I did have my favourites while I was there that I always wore and also had a few things I reached for when I got home.
MAC Blush in “Blush All Day”
This was the perfect natural cheek blush that I wore for the two weeks after I came back. I only own 2 MAC blushes and this one is for sure a unique colour that I love in the Fall.
September has come and gone and I didn’t see it happen! I am excited however since Fall is my favourite season of all. Not only for the beautiful mix of oranges, greens, reds and yellows that nature graces with but also for Fall fashion and makeup. I love sweater weather. A nice cute flat with long plants and a comfy sweater and a scarf, I am happy. I am excited to dust off my fall lip colors and wear them before the cold brutal Canadian winter hits us. Fall is by far way too short!
Anyway, after all that rambling, below you will find my September beauty favourites. You will see that I am still in my neutral lip colours for September as we have had great weather all month and why not keep wearing them when we can. 🙂
Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer Lipstick in 04 Beige Pop
I swatched these last time I was at Sephora and I decided to pick one up at Shoppers Drug Mart (soooo much better rewards program than Sephora). I was surprised how much I enjoyed this! It is moisturizing, smooth, and the colour is a perfect nude. I am for sure picking more of these up.
