I realize I’ve been quieter than usual on the blog and its been for the usual reasons: illness, family, work, and social life. 2016 was an uncommonly stressful year for me, and according to various internet memes, I’m not the only one who feels that way.
But now its 2017 and I can finally reveal that I went on a crazy stress/sugar-high/cold medicine shopping spree on December 16th that completely violated the “can’t buy anything on your Christmas list” pact Nat enforces with the family :p (and yes, I am possibly the worst person to buy for at Christmas … but more on that another time).
So yah.. I went shopping for Christmas while my parents watched the little one. Nice break for the parents… well, I spoiled myself too lol. If you want to snoop and see what I purchased, check it out below!
I got the Physicians Formula stuff at Shoppers Drug Mart and the rest at Jean Coutu.
(note: sorry about the bad pics, I didn’t have good lighting where I was)
After having purged so much makeup and seeing Nat start the purging process for herself, I asked myself a question. Of all my makeup, what do I have that I really enjoy? One item that came to mind was my Carli Bybel Palette by BH Cosmetics. It was $12 USD (+shipping). At the time I picked up a lipstick and a blush plus I received a discount off my shipping and a free mini eyeshadow palette. I think I payed around $36 CDN all included. Over all I was really satisfied with my order. I started to wonder if there is more available at BH Cosmetics that I would like and feel like I’m getting my money’s worth out of. So I placed another order to see.
I tried to resist, I really did, but the siren song of another Urban Decay palette was too much to resist. I am an unabashed fan girl of this brand. I loved the ads when I was a teenager and I became a devotee of the brand when I was living in the UK a decade ago (the smog eyeshadow is still one of my absolute favorites!)
So I was pretty heartbroken when the UD Junkie Vice Lipstick Palette was sold out super quick at Sephora. My wallet might have been happy, but my heart, my heart, was shattered! How could I possibly live without a limited-edition lip palette with 12 shades of the new UD formula?! All housed in a glamorous, gold-accented gunmetal case to boot!
I recommend this palette. The new vice formula is highly pigmented without being cakey. I’m actually taken by surprise every time I use this palette with how gorgeously light the formula is. Whether I can attribute this feeling to the application with the retractable lip brush or the actual lipstick itself, is yet to be determined but love is love, so I will try not to question it!
The downside to this palette? Some of the colors are pretty ‘out there’ for a mild mannered mom and office worker … but so help me, I’m going to be rocking some sweet lippie looks on girls’ nights and New Years Eve!
I will also take the brand’s advice to play around and combine the colors to dial up and deepen hues. The possibilities are endless! I find the compact a little bit too bulky for my everyday purse but it is sturdy enough to pack away in luggage for a vacation – I can’t get bored with 12 lipstick shades during a vacay!
Right now I’m loving the shade Carnal (a medium warm nude) and my daughter’s favorite shade for mommy to wear is 714 (bright red).
If you are looking to treat yourself I highly recommend getting this $45 CAD palette with Bite Beauty’s Line and define lip primer for $25 CAD. $75 CAD for 12 luxury lip shades is a pretty decent price in my books. What do you think?
It was here, it came and went and left with my money… yes, it is that time of year again, the Sephora VIB Sale where you get %20 off the entire store/site.
I have been saving my pennies (ha! they don’t exist anymore) to be able to do a nice epic haul that has some luxury items. If you saw my recent post Anti-Haul Holiday Edition, then you know that I stayed away from holiday sets and if you want to know why, go check out the post. I wanted to get things that are make me feel luxurious and pamper myself. It was a tough year (especially the 1st half) and I deserved some pampering goodies. My last item is the definition of luxury! So let’s get into it!
Today on Yay or Nay Sunday, we are looking at part 1 of the Sephora Collection – Disney Minnie Beauty Collection.
If you know anything about me, you know that I am a huge Disney fan. My parents took my husband and I on our 1st trip to Disney back in 2011 and I fell in love. The magic, the feeling of being in another place, it is amazing. Since then we have gone back twice (not enough imo… lol) but I have loved every trip. I also have to keep from buying cute things for my daughter when I see something Disney that is uber cute (see picture at the bottom of the post to see what I mean hehe).
They did it again! I love Makeup Geek Shadows, if I could only own one brand of eyeshadows, I would own these. I put them in lovely Z Palettes and I reach for them all the time. So when they came out with 18 new shades, 9 mattes and 9 shimmers (2 existed from the Vegas Light palette), you know I had to jump on the bundle.
If you love the original eyeshadows, you will love these, maybe even more since the mattes are extremely buttery. and if you don’t own any.. whatcha waiting for! Check out my other MUG shadows posts to see other swatches.
Yes, the Sephora VIB sale happened, yes we shopped, yes we spent too much, yes we had a blast 🙂 If you aren’t aware of the sale, in April, the VIB sale happens and Beauty Insiders get 10% and VIB and VIB Rouge get 15% off your entire order. In November, it’s 20% off.
After my foundation expedition, my 2nd trip to Sephora had no real purpose. I had a vague idea that I wanted a new cheek palette and possibly some more pencils because I was tired of my old ones … but nothing more than that. I went in with a promise not to spend more then $300. This wasn’t a necessary shopping trip – this was pure consumerist fun.
In the end, I splurged on these great items and stayed within budget thanks to the sale discount. Most of the stuff I got was great, but the Laura Mercier is so-so. I haven’t given all the products a true test drive so these are my first impressions.
This is definitely, 100%, Nat’s fault. Not mine. Nope. Not one bit…
So we were both off and decided to meet up and shop together! A nice perk to being pregnant is that I find myself with a little bit more spending money (which if i was responsible I’d be saving for when I’m on mat leave… but MAKEUP!). I can’t spend money on clothes or booze so what’s a girl to do??
Here is part 2 of the haul I started yesterday and last week if you count the drugstore parts too… man, it’s a lot of stuff. Here we go!
Kat Von D Shade Light Blush In Poe and Piaf: You all know I love Kat Von D makeup and I was excited for these blushes. At first, this blush feels hard but I will play with it more and we will see! I’ll review it for sure.
