I have been inspired by the one and only fa-bu-lous Kimberly Clark (click to see her channel). I love her, so entertaining and I love the idea of the anti-haul. Go check her out. She does these anti-hauls for things that she won’t get and why you don’t need it. “What I’m not gonna buy!” I am using this “anti-haul” tag with the permission of Kimberly Clark herself 🙂
The past 2 years, I have been all over the holiday kits and I have learned my lesson in a few respects when it comes to them. So this year, I am being more selective.
So here is my issues with some of the holiday sets:
- the packaging always gets you
- the quality of some kits are sub-par to the regular line
- price in CAD is sometimes ridiculously expensive for what you get.
- lots of repeat items that you may have in your collection, but you want the kit, so you get it and now you have duplicates.
So here are the items that I am anti-hauling: (I will add #s next to each name to match issues I have above)
Too Faced Let It Glow Highlight and Blush Kit – $32 CAD (3, 1)
What you get: 3 deluxe sample size and a small brush
– Flatbuki Brush
– 0.08 oz/ 2.36 mL Candlelight Glow Highlighting Powder Duo in Rosy Glow
– 0.08 oz/ 2.36 mL Snow Bunny Luminous Bronzer
– 0.07 oz/ 2.07 mL Love Flush Long Lasting 16-Hour Blush in Love Hangover
Can we talk about how small this is? FOR $32?? Nope, nope, nope. At first, I was completely interested in this kit. I have wanted to try each of these items so I thought this would be a good way to do it. But NOT for $32… it is ridiculous. Sephora just had 8 days of deluxe samples that you could add to your order and you could add the candlelight highlighter for FREE to your order. And let’s be honest, will you ever use this brush? It is super cute but NOT useful. If this kit was like 12 or 15, maybe, but for $32, no thanks.
Bite Beauty Gold Creme Lip Gloss – $25 CAD (1, 5)
I get that foils are coming back, but this is extreme. Who wears gold metallic lipgloss? It looks very pigmented, and not sold or described as a topper for your lips like their Opal colour was. Although the price is decent, I think this is taking the gold that is very popular during Christmas as trying to make sales.. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Bite Beauty but I think this one is kinda gimmicky. But again… soooo pretty looking. But let’s face it, this will sit in your drawer collecting dust.
Urban Decay Naked Illuminated Trio – $49 CAD
Of all the highlighting palettes that came out for the holidays, this one is not making it to my cart. The shades look pretty but it is a glitter bomb! For that reason, and the price, I will not get it. Oh and the brush, who would use that?!
tarte Pretty Paintbox Collectors Makeup Case – $77 CAD
This is one of those sets that has less quality than the tarte we are used to. I find this kit bulky…. soooooo bulky. Can we talk about how impractical the big thick packaging is? This thing closes like a book and is like 3 inches thick. Not easy to store, not easy to take out and use. Lets face it, it will sit in a (big) drawer and never get used. There is also a plastic that comes over the blush, which is necessary so it doesn’t get into the eyeshadow and vice versa but man, that’s annoying. I would save the money and keep it to buy some of the single blushes.
Too Faced Chocolate Shop – $72 (1,2,3)
Too Faced has to be the king of packaging. Their holiday kits are soooo cute and they suck you in. This year, I find it is a repeat of last year and the quality is sub par. I was able to swatch some colours and it was NOT impressive. It is made in China instead of the US, like their regular line, and the quality does suffer. My holy grail palette is the Chocolate Bar and I would go back and purchase that again way before this set. Plus its 72… yes $72. You do NOT need it. You have those shades over and over in much better quality.
Urban Decay Full Spectrum Palette – $80 CAD
Nope. Nope. Sure, it looks pretty, but how practical is it?! There is not even a neutral option. I guess if you like bold colours all the time, sure but for the average makeup wearer. I do not think this is worth it and especially not for $80. To use it, you will need to bring in another palette for transition colours and then it makes your $80 palette even more expensive.
I hope that you enjoyed this anti-haul!!
What are you not going to buy this holiday season??
