Happy Canada Day Beauties!
Since I’m in a patriotic and celebratory mood I thought I’d theme this June’s favorites after my favorite lipstick company – Bite Beauty.
First a little history:
In 2009, Susanne Langmuir told her husband, Doug, of her idea for a business focused entirely on good-enough-to-eat lip products. He said: “That’s the craziest thing I’ve ever heard.”
She must have been persuasive; two weeks later, her husband quit his banking job and became chief operating officer for Bite Beauty. Formulations focused not on the usual petroleum-based ingredients, but used instead micronized fruit, shea butter and the antioxidant resveratrol.
Langmuir was able to strike an alliance with retailer Sephora, Bite’s exclusive North American distributor. Top sellers include Lush Lip Tint in Lychee and Luminous Crème Lipstick in Tannin.
With sales over $7 million this year and 35 employees, mainly at the company’s small Toronto production facility, the Langmuirs’ investment in healthy is a beautiful thing! (Thanks to Reader’s Digest Best Health for the Information!)
So let’s peek in my purse and see what current Bite Beauty products are in rotation.
In my purse alone, I have THREE Bite Beauty products!
2 matte crème lip crayons in Café and Torte and Lush Fruit Lip Gloss in Strangefruit.
The crème lip crayons are as lush as they sound. Part lip pencil/part lipstick these sticks create a matte look with a pleasantly moist texture. Apparently the secret is the “moisture-locking power of orange peel wax along with the antioxidant properties of resveratrol.” The colors are water-resistent, and long wearing. I like having these neutrals in my purse because they go with anything and are easy to apply while holding a hand mirror. The lids snap in place so you don’t have to worry about the top falling off and ruing the lining of your purse.
The Lush Fruit Lip Gloss has all the benefits of a lip balm but with brilliant blendable color! Apparently the glosses contain the same ingredients you’d find in a pure fruit smoothie: real coconut, mango, and strawberry! YUM! The color payoff is awesome and it has enough thickness not to smear. I would describe the formula as more juicy then sticky. And even though strangefruit seems to be an ‘out there’ color I love perking up an outfit by applying a thin layer or putting it over neutral lippies (such as the lip crayons) to give a fresh fuchsia tinge.
