How to Apply Make-up and Entertain your Toddler

Kids want to do what you do. They want to eat what you’re eating, push their stroller, and wear your shoes.

Those actions are all adorable. A problem arises, however, when your child wants to play with mummy’s nice make-up! Especially when mummy has precisely 15 minutes to get ready.
The solution I found is to create make-up kits for my daughter. For the most part she just loves the packaging. So I carefully re-seal pretty packaging and stash them in her kits for her to find. When she becomes wise to that ruse, high end samples of hypoallergenic and quality products. Why the high end and hypoallergenic products you ask? Because when she manages to open said products (I know right – I can barely open up compacts most of the time!) I want to know that she’s safe to apply/swallow them! I consider it her more expensive play-doh and finger paints! Fluffy brushes are also a must for any toddler make-up kit. They are fun, clean, safe and great for tickle battles! My daughter also enjoys ‘helping’ me apply my makeup so a clean fluffy brush is a great way for her to help me ‘blend’.

Her great-grandmother also got her an adorable make-up mirror with accessories that lets her strut her stuff. Plastic non flexible bangles are great for toddlers since they pose a minimal hazard and it is just too cute to watch her painstakingly decide how to enhance her outfits.
Choice is key for toddlers. I actually have a drawer full of bracelets and a few make-up bags for her to choose from. It keeps things fresh and interesting. I also store her stuff with my gear so she believes it’s more authentic (this worked wonders with her play kitchen food – she wasn’t interested in ‘cutting’ wooden veggies until I started storing it with my cutting boards.) Now she’s learning how to be a great helper in the kitchen as well as a future make-up addict!
As much as I sometimes miss when getting ready was my ‘alone’ time. It does make for some special memories to have my little one sit in my lap and be so pleased when she gets a tab of lip balm on her lips.
