Oh boy! What a looong name! This product came in to my life because Sephora still didn’t have the new tinted moisturizer from Urban Decay and I really needed to get something for the summer. At $36 this was substantially cheaper than my holy grail NARS tinted moisturizer so I thought I’d try it out!
The BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream claims to have the best attributes from tinted moisturizers, BB creams and CC creams all in one! I’m not sure what they mean by that exactly… but it does feature:
- SPF 30
- increased skin hydration
- dewy finish
- sheer to medium coverage
They recommend applying it with a brush and building the coverage to what you want.
Since I use a lot of tinted moisturizers and am looking for light coverage that offers sun protection I was very interested in this product. I decided to start by applying it with my fingers since I’m in the market for something that is extremely fast and easy to apply. Upon first application I noticed that it did a great job in blurring out those imperfections. It is without a doubt a dewy finish but not greasy, so I can deal with that.
I was immediately very impressed with how it improved the look of my complexion! I snapped the above photos and sent them to Nat and Missy right away! This is a very light application of the product using just my fingers. In time I experimented with applying the BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream with a beauty blender and a brush. I prefer to use my fingers for light application. If I’m looking to build coverage I prefer the beauty blender.
I personally set my makeup. After I took these pictures I did the rest of my face with all BareMinerals products… because why not!!?? I love this brand!
When I set the BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream it last me all day – assuming I’m not doing anything out in the intense heat.
I really like that it’s easy to apply, offers and SPF and gives me such a beautiful finish! The dewy finish never gets greasy or oily. I only need to apply a small amount so I foresee this tube lasting me a very long time!
The down side to this product is that it does need to be set to last. I have tried it out without setting it and find that it will melt away a little after 4-6 hours.
I’ve also noticed it catching on dry patches. This is why I didn’t care for applying it with a brush. I felt that a beauty blender helped prevent it catching on dry areas.
Since it catches on dry patches, I create only light coverage when applying it with my fingers. If ever I want more coverage I definitely use the beauty blender but to be honest, I think I’d look for a product that is specifically intended for medium + coverage if I wanted more. I think this is best used as a light coverage, easy to apply tinted moisturizer not as a real foundation.
For $36, this is a good buy. It suits my need of a quick and easy complexion product that offers sun protection. I will be wearing this quite a lot this summer (I already have been!). Given the down sides of the product mentioned above, it’s definitely not holy grail status for me. I’m not sure if I’d repurchase it but I will continue to use it.
