Most people agree that looking good goes hand in hand with feeling good. Yes confidence comes from within but its hard to give a presentation when you have a large red blemish on your chin or are worried about your peach fuzz becoming illuminated in the sunlight. But I believe too much primping in front of a magnified mirror is a bad thing. I’m going to tell you why I decided to give myself not only a mirror break, but a facial, and plucking break as well.

First let me define mirror break. I have a very magnified illuminate every pore and miniscule hair mirror and I also have an ornamental ‘normal’ mirror.

This mirror sees everything!
This magnified and lighted mirror sees everything!
This mirror has an adorable owl and shows you what other people actually see when they look at you :)

I decided to give up my magnified mirror for a month and here’s what happened:

  1. I got to bed and ready in the morning faster – since I couldn’t see every every microscopic goo ball and  hair in my pores I stopped needing to pinch and tweeze my face for 10-30 minutes a day.
  2. My damaged skin got a chance to heal – a bunch of stuff causes me to break out but as we all know damaged skin leads to more clogged pores. Taking a break from a microscopic mirror gave my breakouts a chance to heal.
  3. I felt less anxiety over my skin. Ignorance really is bliss -I’m due for a face wax soon but its nice to not see the translucent regrowth.

I decided to do this because I have some pretty stressful and exciting stuff coming up at work and I needed the extra time and less stress. I also did this ‘mirror break’ before my wedding and other major events. This idea of giving yourself and your beauty psyche a break is some advice I plan to pass on to my daughter.

Do you have any sage advice to share?
