I love sets! It’s like getting yourself a surprise gift. There’s something special and a little bit devilish about taking a risk and trying out Sephora’s ‘handpicked’ best sellers for getting your glow on.
I’ve lamented in this blog before how I can’t tan. Sometimes my freckles (i.e. sun damage) connects so from far away I look tanned but alas, that’s about as much color as I get. So I love trying out products that will help me fake a warm, outdoorsy complexion.
What’s nice with this set is the size of the products make it worth the $48 CAD. I figured I would break even if I liked 2 of the products. Since I already use and love the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Opal and Nars Bronzing Powder in Laguna, the other products were going to be a bonus love!
I would love to tell you that I loved all 8 products in this kit. But alas, I cannot. So I will do the bad news first:
😦 Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner in Penny Lane
I love this color but it does not love my lids. Maybe I need some sort of primer? I really don’t like having to struggle with my products though. Life is already too taxing, I don’t need to do a special accomodation plan for my freaking eyeliner!
😦 Tarte Amazonian butter lipstick in Park Ave
Dear Tarte – stop making these lipsticks. I really don’t see the point. I find the formula greasy and very uneven. It’s a beautiful color but the formula sits terribly on my lips. What makes this especially upsetting is that I love Tarte’s lip tints. They are possibly the greatest lip product in the world – and yet they still make this sub par butter stuff. Boo.
😦 BareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Trail Blazer
Bad color (too pale for me) and waaaaay too sticky. I wiped it off pretty quick. Because the color is so pale, it applied very patchy and the color pooled in the creases of my lips. Yuck.
Vita Liberata Phenomenal 2-3 Week Tinted Tan Mousse in Medium
I haven’t tried this product and I probably won’t. I’ve had some terrible mishaps with self tanners … my personal favorite was when the color started to melt and made it look like I was bleeding all over my white cover up and towel. I’m not sure if I’m ready to take that risk again.
🙂 Formula X The Colors – Revved Up in Rose Gold
Great nail polish in an awesome color that will look stylish on the weekends but is neutral enough to wear during a presentation at work.
🙂 Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Copper
This is an AMAZING product! And since it retails for $35 CAD I’d say it totally saves this kit from being a bust. The consistency is spot on and the color is perfectly on trend but also classic. I love creating a bronze smokey look by lining my waterline with this amazing product.
So I ended up liking 50% of the products in this kit. Since the Laura Mercier, Nars, and Becca are high end products I feel like the kit was worth the price… and it also showed me some products to stay away from.
Have your tried out this kit or these products? What do you think of them?
