Happy 2016 everyone! 2015 was a year of change for me but 2016 will be even more so! Due to being pregnant I felt like I spent the better half of 2015 looking ahead to 2016 so it was a lot of fun for me to go through all my favourites and try to pick out the best ones from 2015. It was a trip down memory lane to a time when I had alcohol and could sleep… Here’s my picks for the standouts of 2015 by category. Enjoy!
I tried to fill out my complexion brush collection in 2015 so I bought quite a lot of brushes!!! I also tried to expand my eyeshadow brush collection a little but didn’t make a deliberate effort in the same way I did with complexion brushes (can we call stepping up my eyeshadow brush collection game a 2016 goal!??). I found that a good setting brush is key for me because I fight under eye circles. I can use the same setting brush for my t-zone (although I do prefer a fluffier brush to set the rest of my foundation, it’s not as crucial as having the appropriate sized under eye setting brush). Therefore my 2015 favourite brush is the real Techniques Setting Brush!
Throughout 2015 I mentioned LOTS of blushes in my Faves. I had the Lise Watier Blush, Milani in Berry Amore and Luminoso, and a BareMinerals blush as well. I also experimented a lot in blushes trying some from ELF, Flower Cosmetics, Josie Maran to name a few. I dabbled in lots of textures and finishes as well. The stand out blush of 2015 for me has to be the tried and true, baked blushes from Milani. I love the colours that I own and look forward to buying more! I like that these blushes last all day, go on smoothly, look amazing and cost $7.99! When I compare them to my other high end faves, I don’t see a reason to rebuy those high end blushes at their full prices. I think I might end up being a 100% drugstore blush kinda gal… More Milani blushes are in my future and I hope to dabble more in this brand throughout 2016.
Hands down NARS Tinted Moisturizer. I haven’t repurchased it yet because I’m still trying to finish up all my other foundations. At the moment I still have some of my Rodial Skin tint left, Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation, PUR Foundation, and a liquid foundation from Almay. Once I finish up the Rodial Skin tint I hope to repurchase the NARS Tinted Moisturizer. The $54 price tag has not deterred me… it provides light coverage, sun protection, a satin finish and is so easy to apply! It’s the easiest thing for an everyday light makeup look which is totally my average day! Now I need to find more medium-full coverage foundation for going out and special occasions… so far my Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation is the front runner for that because it looks so nice and the colour is a perfect match for me 🙂
Julep Duos, specifically in the shade Lo & Behold. I use this one all the time because it’s perfect for a light makeup day. Like for when I go to work 🙂 It’s easy soft a smooth, looks so lovely on the lid and adds a finished look to my makeup without looking too much like I spend 10 hours on my eyes! I can use this duo to make a quick look and only spend a few minutes on my eyes. I find myself frequently reaching for it. These duos are by far the best beauty product that Julep has put out. Love all of them but specifically this one.
I fell in love with so many palettes in 2015! Some were just new to me, some were 2015 releases! My pick for my personal favourite palette for 2015 is a new to me choice, the Urban Decay Naked Basics 2. I love this palette because it has a home in my everyday makeup basket and gets used pretty much weekly, if not more. It’s a great palette to supplement other palettes that don’t have enough mattes in them or to help add some dimension when using just a single shadow as the main focus on the lid! I even use it for a super basic look from time to time. I think everyone needs a palette that is matte and has enough colours to supplement the other eyeshadows and palettes in their collection. It doesn’t necessarily have to be this specific one, I recently bought the Tartlette and I feel it could serve the same purpose plus be a little nicer to use on it’s own! I ended up picking the Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 palette over the Tartlette as my favourite because I had it longer, it’s more affordable, and it was the palette that really highlighted to me the importance of a basic, supplementary palette. Also I really do love it. Seriously, it’s awesome!
Stila Stay All Say Lip Vinyl in Nude Vinyl is my 2015 standout for lip products! I find it to be long lasting but not drying. It is nude without being too brown. And it generally just suits me! This fell to the back burner in the fall but as I was reviewing my favourites over 2015 I rediscovered this and I feel that out of all my lip favourites, this one I’d repurchase! LOVE IT!!
Ok so be default this goes to the Annabelle Skinny Brow Pencil. Largely because it’s the only brow product that I currently own that I’d replace if I lost it. I love a good brow gel and am currently hunting for my perfect tinted brow gel but so far I haven’t had a ton of success. I’ve tried the one from GOSH, Milani, Benefit, and Hard Candy with little success 😦 Time to get back at finding my brow gel holy grail I guess! I do really like the Annabelle Skinny Brow Pencil because it’s very fine. It matches me well and is affordable. I only use pencils when I am doing a fuller makeup look so that my brows are balanced with the rest of my makeup. On a day to day basis I wear light makeup so I prefer a tinted brow gel to avoid giving myself awkward sharpy brows!
Notable categories that I left out…
So I didn’t talk about mascara or concealer because I don;t have any products that I died over. I do love the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer however as I progressed in to winter I felt the shade was no longer a match. I have no mascara favourites 😦
I hope you enjoyed me stand out products for 2015! Happy 2016 everyone!!
