Holiday Set Reviews: The Regal Wardrobe by bareMinerals

The Regal Wardrobe
The Regal Wardrobe

First of all this is HOLY GRAIL territory! I can’t put bareMinerals’ ‘The Regal Wardrobe’ palette down! I keep trying to reach for other palettes but I just can’t help thinking that I’ll look better if I stick with this one. (Sheena buy and take this one on your next trip!)

This palette was part of my Ulta haul back in October. I’m a newbie to bareMinerals so I really wanted to put this palette through its paces before I came to any conclusions. I started with the idea that I will only wear this palette for a week. But once that week was up I still couldn’t put it down. This palette is shockingly good and diverse. The best part is that EVERY color is wearable for me. THAT’S right – I LOVE EVERY COLOR.

So let’s talk about all the reasons I love and highly recommend this palette (sorry haters but I am full of LOVE!). First of all the marketing is great. Who doesn’t want to look regal like Kate Middleton all the time? The packaging is whimsical, sturdy with a magnetic closure, and fits into the palm of my hand. It folds up to about the width of my finger. Perfect for a medium to large size purse or as the only item in a clutch. This tiny package packs a wallop since it contains a decent mirror, eight wearable eyeshadows, two blushes, a bronzer, and a highlighter.

Let’s start with the blushes, bronzer, and highlight. While the colors at first didn’t appeal to me, they are beautiful on the skin.

The Love Letter (blush), The Brillant Sunset (highlight), The Skinny Dip (bronzer), and The Summer Fling (blush)

I don’t even know if the above swatches do the make-up justice. When applied all together my skin glows enough for people to notice. During my week-long trial of this palette, I discovered that I looked best if I used The Love Letter along my cheek bones, The Summer Fling on the apples of my cheeks, and then used the The Skinny Dip and The Brillant Sunset like I would any contouring kit. The colors went on light and weightless and complimented each other. Since I’m still pretty unsure about contouring, I enjoyed being able to easily blend these pretty shades to enhance my face but not over-power myself. The overall look was always a pretty and healthy glow.

Next the eyeshadows! I haven’t picked up the bareMinerals palettes before now because, to be frank, I always found them kind of boring and muddy looking. I was SO wrong! The colors are brillant, and best of all they are all matched to work with each other! There isn’t a crap color in the bunch and I have literally tried them all. The colors are buildable which is great for rushed mornings when you want a pop of color but can’t waste time redoing! I love the mattes and the shimmers almost equally. Although, I have to say, that my favorite is the shimmery Cognac color.

Regal (velvet plum), Treasure Hunt (shimmering taupe), Natural (light buttery peach), Cognac (gilded bronze), Namaste (sandy brown), 500 Thread Count (airy pink), Romp (iridescent lilac), Flash (matte purple clay).
Swatches from top to bottom: Natural (light buttery peach), 500 Thread Count (airy pink), Cognac (gilded bronze), Romp (iridescent lilac), Namaste (sandy brown), Flash (matte purple clay), Treasure Hunt (shimmering taupe), Regal (velvet plum).

Typically I’d use 500 Thread Count in the inner corners of my eyes and under my lower lash line and eyebrows, I would then sweep Natural all over my eyelid. I would then layer one of the colors on my actual lid. Build it until I got the color I craved, then add a line of coordinating eye pencil and  then mascara. The shadows are a little bit dusty but are not messy. Their longevity benefits from the application of a primer but it’s not necessary. The overall effect of these shadows, I felt, was an effortlessly chic look that was extremely day appropriate. I can see this being my go-to palette when I return to work.

I cannot stress enough what a fun and diverse palette this is. If you are intimidated by high pigment shadows but still want to have some fun  with color try this palette! This has become my go-to palette and I hope other people can benefit from this great gem from bareMinerals so they make more! (hint hint)
