The $10 Weekly – Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base

IMG_1441

The Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow base is likely the most inexpensive eye primer that I’ve personally come across. It’s only $2.99! I’ve been wanting to try this one for so long but never got around to it because eyeshadow primer is so easy to come by. I have 4 or 5 sitting around waiting to be used up… It’s kind of embarrassing… Eventually I broke down and picked this one up for the sake of this blog 🙂 So you’re welcome!

Normally I use Smashbox or Urban Decay eyeshadow primer. I don’t struggle with excessive redness on the eyelids or unusually oily lids. If you have really oily lids then you may want to take my words with a bit of a grain of salt. I can’t really speak to that issue… but for me this primer actually worked! I tried it out for a few weeks with a variety of shadows and felt that it performed just as well as my Urban Decay or Smashbox Primers!

One thing that it could not do was save a bad eyeshadow. I have an eyeshadow in my collection that just doesn’t want to NOT crease! I keep it because I’m still trying different things to see if I can make it work. Sadly this eyeshadow primer is not the solution! Oh well. I wasn’t really expecting miracles out of it…

Other than the fact that I used it regularly with no major issues there are a few other things to note!

IMG_1657The consistency of this product is like a very thin concealer. It reminded me a lot of the Maybelline Fit Me concealers. It comes with a doe foot applicator as pictured above. This makes application super easy! I dabbed a few dots on my eyes and blended it out with my fingers. The applicator could make it a nice and easy way to apply a little primer on the lower lash line for times when you intend on putting some shadow there however….

It comes on 1 shade and that shade is awfully yellowish!

Blended out on my eye wasn’t so bad.

The eye that is my right in the photo above has the Essence I Love Stage Base on it and the other is bare. It blends out ok but I could still see the yellow tones on my eye. Once I put eyeshadow on it wasn’t an issue for me but I can see how others won’t like that!

I think that I will keep this in my collection and I will even keep using it! But I won’t bother to buy it again. I’d prefer a better colour match.

  1. I have this primer as well. I also find its very yellow. If you miss a spot, it really shows up. Yuck LOL I agree with you on the better color match issue. Too dark for me.
