I got this in a premium sample skincare kit while I was at Murale some time ago. I’ve never tried this brand and they’re Canadian! This moisturizer claims to have over 500 hours of moisturization in the jar! Holy Toledos!!! It’s intended for people who lack water in their skin, and that is my problem so I put this product to the test!
Problem. The test did not last long. It burnt my face.
Ouch! It felt stingy and burny and weird so I washed it off straight away. My face has redness to it but the fresher looking pink areas on my cheek are a reaction. I look flushed but this was the morning. It’s looking a touch shiny on my cheeks as well because that’s my skin reacting and producing oil to protect it.
I have to blame myself a little for this painful experience. Typically I’m very careful of the ingredients that are included in my skin care products. This time I just blankly trusted the name and went with it. After the fact I looked it up and wow! What was I thinking??
Water, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Alcohol Denat., Prunus Armeniaca Kernel Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter, Mannose, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol, PEG/PPG/Polybutylene Glycol-8/5/3 Glycerin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Divinyldimethicone/Dimethicone Copolymer, Chlorphenesin, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Hydroxide, Serine, 2-Oleamido-1, 3-Octadecanediol, Citrulline, Cholesterol, Ammonium Polyacryldimethyltauramide, Limonene, Vitreoscilla Ferment, Tocopherol, Disodium EDTA, C12-13 Pareth-23, Hexyl Cinnamal, C12-13 Pareth-3, Menthoxypropanediol, Benzyl Salicylate Zinc Gluconate, Ceramide 3, Hydroxypalmitoyl Sphinganine, Linalool, Citral, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Benzyl Alcohol, Blue 1, Yellow 5, Fragrance
For stuff like this I source from Paula’s Choice. After finding the ingredients on her site and noticing all the alcohol that burns my poor and tender skin included in this product, I read her comments on it. I was particularly disturbed by this:
“This also is not recommended because it contains the irritating menthol derivative menthoxypropanediol. The tingle you experience upon application may feel refreshing, but it’s your skin telling you it is being irritated. Menthol in any form is not good news for your skin!”
Well that explains the tingling!
All in all it was a bad scene. When this kind of flair-up happens to me I have to let my skin breath because it feels sort of raw. I rested my face and was back to normal in 24 hours. Biotherm has gone straight to the recycling bin!
