HAHAHAHAHA! I’ve conquered another Beauty Insider Appreciation Event at Sephora! And like all good rampaging viking-like characters I am celebrating my plunder by getting drunk (accidentally okay?!) But yes, I am feeling the high that only craft beer and a bunch of new beauty products can give you and I can’t WAIT to tell you all about it!
I approach VIB events with four things in mind: 1) buy full sizes of samples that I loved 2)practical purchases for the everyday 3) conquer new trends and 4) splurges. I will now divide my haul into these four categories and tell you my thoughts!
1) Buy Full Size Products From Samples I Loved
If you’ve been following my writing, you’ll have probably realized that I’m a sample/travel size hoarder. I love trying out high price items in tiny sizes for tiny prices. At this event, however, I decided to make it one of my missions to buy full size products of the samples that rocked my world:
Stila Stay All Day 10-In-One HS Illuminating Beauty Balm (sunscreen, moisturizer, coverage, and awesomeness in one smooth step)
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Opal (why not look like you have a private lighting crew making your face look amazing …. and if you’re into ‘strobing’ this is what you need)
Kat von D Immortal Lash 24 Hour Mascara (I have tested this mascara through laughing tears, a summer run, and the various goos a baby will fling at your face … it does not run or smudge – and get this: it comes off with ONE swipe of an oil based make-up remover! No panda eyes the next day!)
Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer (Great for combination or oily skin since it minimizes the appearance of pores by magically distributing light to help hide and soften the look of skin imperfections and fine lines … it’s like a liquid facelift!)
2) Practical Purchases for the Everyday
Then I wanted to deal with some practical issues. Namely that I have a ton of lip products that I don’t wear because I fear them bleeding.
Tarte Amazonian Clay Universal Lip Liner (This nude pencil goes on smoothly and deposits a gentle pigment that compliment most shades of gloss and lipstick and it fills in fine lines and wrinkles. It’s supposed to help your color stay in place all day so that there’s no need to continuously reapply or worry about smudging and feathering outside the lip line. So far I’m a fan. It doesn’t seem to effect the color of your lipstick that you layer on top like other liners would)
3) Conquer New Trends
Then I wanted to attack a trend that I’ve been ignoring, namely the ‘bush brow’ http://www.flare.com/beauty/right-now-brows/ ala Cara Delevingne
To make this possible I enlisted the expertise of the ‘Benefit Brow Bar’ specialist who took me through my paces. I’m having trouble letting go of my 90s ‘tadpole’ eyebrows (thick at the front tiny, at the back) so I needed a way to fake thick, lustrous eyebrows. Here’s what I bought because of my tutorial:
Benefit Cosmetics Brow Zings Brow Shaping Kit in light (The kit includes a soft, pigmented wax that defines and shapes brows and a color complementing setting powder, plus discreet tweezers for pesky stray hairs, a hard angle brush, and a blending brush.)
Benefit Cosmetics High Brow (This highlighting pencil seems to lift and enhance that delicate brow bone to get an enviably expressive arch. I also like to use it in the corners of my eyes and under the lashlines)
Benefit Cosmetics Boi-ing Industrial-Strenght Full Coverage Concealer (This awesome concealer will cover up anything – even stray hairs! It’s good on ‘clean up’ duty once you’ve made your lustrous brows!)
And finally no trip to a VIB event would not be complete without a couple of treats! This time I decided to splurge on:
Bite Beauty Maple Matte Creme Lipstick in Candied Maple (This maple scented lipstick is hard not to take a bite out of … seriously I had to make french toast this morning just so I wouldn’t be tempted! It’s bright, bold, and super moisturizing. Everything you would expect from a product made by this great Canadian Company)
Urban Decay Naked Smoky (This was my big win – I snatched this palette up before it sold out! I now own and love all the Naked eye palettes! And I have to say the smoky palette is new and innovative and didn’t disappoint! You still get 12 great shades but they’ve changed the layout so it’s mattes on one end and shimmers are the other. The double ended brush is also new and built for blending! I’m so looking forward to playing with this palette some more :D)
Phew! That’s quite as haul! I’m so happy and excited I got to share it with all of you! Below is a fun day look I through together with my purchases. Now I’m off to consume another beer with the hubby! A successful shopping trip like this must be celebrated!!!
