*New! Lookbook and Review – Kat Von D Shade Light Eye Palette

names
You know when it comes to Kat Von D palettes, you know I gotta have them! I don’t have many matte shadows, so I thought this would be perfect. It has many shades that you can not only make your own look with, but use in combination with any other palette or singles. These are no different then her other palettes (Monarch and Innerstellar). They are very buttery and very soft. The pigmentation is insane, that is for all of her shadows. If you are a bigginner, this palette is probably not for you. With the high pigmentation, they need work and the mastering of blending techniques! They could be hard to work for someone not used to this pigmentation.

As far as the colours go, I like the 3rd quad the best, but I love the lazarus colour in the crease. Shax is very very black and doesn’t kick up much powder but Samael is the worst for that. I was even shocked. I know that Kat Von D’s shadows kick up powder because they are very soft and buttery but that one shade surprised me. One shade that I wasn’t expecting to like, but I actually love is liberatus. I actually would like to combine lazarus in the crease with liberatus on the lid. Could be interesting!

Swatches!!

Dupes!

It hit me when I typed that I like to use the colours lazarus in my crease that it seemed very similar to a colour in the Urban Decay Naked Basics, Naked 2. So naturally I stopped typing this post and had to check and yup, they are similar.

Top, Naked 2 from and Bottom is lazarus
Top: lazarus, bottom Naked 2

Then I busted out my Makeup Geek shadows and found a few dupes too. The texture of the shadows are different between the Shade Light Eye palette and the MUG shadows, but the colours are similar. The KVD shadows are thicker and extremely matte, there is no sheen at all in them, and the MUG ones have a tiny bit, and you only notice this when you actually compare them like I did. Don’t get me wrong the MUG shadows are matte and super amazing, but not as matte as the KVD.

ludwin is a slightly darker version of the classic Peach Smoothie from Makeup Geek. If Peach Smoothie is too light for you, you will love and ludwin and understand what the hype is all about!

top ludwin, bottom Peach Smoothie

Another MUG favorite is Cocoa Bear, this one is a slightly more brown version of the shade succubus.

top succubus (more red) and bottom cocoa bear (more brown and more opaque)

The last one I found (and honestly looked for because it caught my eye when I reached for Peach Smoothie) is sytry and Mocha from Makeup Geek. They aren’t the exact same match, mainly on the finish of the shadow, but they are similar.

Top sytry, bottom Mocha. You can see how much the sytry shade is opaque.

And with that, I almost recreated the 3rd quad of the palette! Would you guys be interested in me doing a look with one eye MUG and the other the 3rd quad of the KVD Shade Light Eye Palette?

LOOKBOOK!!!

Look #1 -Pretty Spring Coral

Using the 3rd quad and one colour from the 2nd quad

Ludwin in the crease and lower lash line, Succubus all over the lid, Sytry in the outter corner, Latinus as a brow hightlight and liberatus in the inner corner of the eye.

I then put the Urban Decay 24/7 glide-on pencil in Smokeout and Stargazer on the lower lash line.

On my cheeks, Clinique Color Pop blush in Giner Pop.

On my lips is the Too Faced Melted Metal in Débutante.

Look #2 Smokey Purple Princess

Using the 2nd quad of the palette

Lazarus in the crease and lower lash line, Liberatus all over the lid, inner corner and as a brow highlight, Saleos in the middle of the lid, and Shax on the outer corner.

I then put the Urban Decay 24/7 glide-on pencil in Voodoo on the lower lash line and Perversion on the upper lash line.

On my cheeks, Clinique Color Pop blush in Pansy Pop.

On my lips is the Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Wonderchilde. The lipstick looks patchy on the picture cause its got some duel chrome colour… but honestly, it is not the easiest colour of the collection to apply but it’s not patchy like in the picture.

Look #3 Fly Orange

Using the 1st quad of the palette

Samael in the crease and lower lash line, Solas all over the lid and outer corner, Lucius in the inner corer and Laetus as a brow highlight.

I then put the Marc Jacobs copper eyeliner in the lower lash line and the Kat Von D Tatoo Liner on the upper lash line smudged out with Shax.

On my cheeks, Clinique Color Pop blush in Pansy Pop.

and on my lips Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in A Go-Go topped with Buxom lipgloss in Mai Tai.

Hope you enjoyed this post and these looks!

  1. Yes, please do a lookbook look with MUG on one eye, KVD the other.
Thank you for the thorough swatch, review and comparison. 😊
