Travel Kit Reviews: Urban Decay’s Naked On The Run

Well I finally bit the bullet and shelled out $64 CAD for the Naked On The Run Palette by Urban Decay. This limited-edition, all-in-one travel palette boasts FIVE eyeshadows, a blush, a bronzer, a highlighter, an eyeliner, a lip gloss, and a mascara—everything needed for a complete your look. This is Holy Grail material right? That’s what I thought too but I’m sadly going to have to give this kit 4 out of 5 stars since it’s truly geared to a warm – toned, medium and  tanned complexion not a cool-toned, fair, ghost white complexion of yours truly.

Like all Urban Decay products the quality is there. The case is sturdy and compact. Great for travel and even for tucking into medium sized purses.

The swatches of the eyeshadows are beautiful and all the formulas are long lasting. But the colors are just hard to pull off if you have cool toned skin. I find brown eyeshadow can make me look like I have a bruised/tired eyes so I had to do some serious blending and be inventive to get my money’s worth.

It was the same story with the blush, bronzer, and highlighter. The blush was too bright, the bronzer too orange, and the highlighter too yellow. It would look AMAZING if I ever had tanned skin (probably most of Urban Decay’s consumers DO have tanned skin since this company is based out of Los Angeles) So once again ALOT of blending and mixing. Which kinda negates the purpose of a travel kit since it’s application is supposed to be QUICK!

But enough with this negativity, I have to now list the ALL STARS, that money  and product wise makes this kit a deal. The Full-Size Naked Ultra Nourishing Gloss lip gloss in Sesso is fabulous and I do believe it would compliment most skin tones. It’s a great everyday gloss that will last you until the evening and it makes your lips feel great. I makes me want to buy the full line of Naked lip glosses.

The 24/7 Glide-On eye pencil in Stag is also a great product. I may not be crazy about the warm brown colour but the quality is undeniable! This liner goes on creamy and stays put and flawless like liquid liner but can also be blended like a champ. Also a little goes a long way, so I know this liner will last until the pans run dry. I can’t stress enough how much I love all of Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On liners and if you don’t own one you really should consider it! Here’s some close ups daytime eye looks I made with this palette.

And then finally there is the amazing Perversion mascara. I love this mascara because it’s dramatic without being clumpy (see above pics). It’s dark black so it makes your lashes stand out but the formula is just amazing the way it coats without clumping. I have been using Perversion mascara the past couple of months after going on a mascara hunt when Lancome changed their mascara’s consistency (unofficially). After trying out Cinique, Sephora, Make Up Forever, and Urban Decay’s Big Fatty mascara I will be repurchasing Urban Decay’s Perversion mascara. A mascara is a great edition to any travel kit and when it’s a top notch one like Perversion you can’t go wrong!

Here’s my favorite flushed daytime look I accomplished with mucho blending from this kit. I like that I look flushed with a natural lip and I was able to get some contouring accomplished from the bronzer, blush, and highlighter. I think the eye look is on the verge of being too dramatic for day time but I will always enjoy making my eyes the focal point of my face. What I hate is that there is a serious discrepancy between my warm toned face to my cool toned neck. That kinda stuff irritates me to no end but I do enjoy the challenge of trying to make any make-up work!

In conclusion, Naked On The Run is an amazing kit if you have a medium or warm toned skin. Buyer beware if you are fair or cool toned like me!
