This week on Yay or Nay Sunday, we are reviewing the Julep Glow Highlighting Powder and Fan Brush!
These are new items launched with the February Julep Maven box. Julep is branching out more and more in makeup and I am happy to be along for ride and try out their new products in my subscription box.
Let me start with the Fan Brush! A nice Yay!
I am already a big fan of Julep brushes, my favourite being the eyeshadow brush that I use as a blending crease brush. That being said, I was very happy to see this new brush come out, I had to have it of course. I like how sturdy they are with a nice metal handle and a little bit heavy that allows for great control. This brush is no exception. The only thing is that this brush is big! I have to get used to using it properly. It does pick up product nicely and applies it evenly. Teamed up with the size of the Glow Powder, it fits perfectly in the pan. The pan of the powder is also larger than the standard compact. If you like these big fan brushes, this is a solid choice.
As far as the Glow Highlighting Powder, I am torn but heading towards the Nay. I love how big this product is, I don’t see myself running out of this for a while. Because of the size, using the fan brush with it is perfect and fits nicely in the pan. I have seen some reviews about the pan coming out of the packaging and even if that didn’t happen to me, as you can see, my sticker at the back of the packaging is on wrong. With the price tag of $28 (or $22.40 for Mavens) I want perfection, and does the seem like there was a bit of carelessness when putting these together. However, this won’t affect my review of the powder itself.
Even with the big fluffy fan brush, I found this powder didn’t blend well. I do however, like the sheen it gives. It has some glitter but it doesn’t look like a glitter bomb on your face. My bigger beef with it is that it accentuates my pores… I found out of all the highlighters that I ave used, it is the worst at doing that. As you can also see, the packaging got dirty really quick and it is quite bulky. You do get a lot of product however, that’s a good part but it does take a lot of room in my drawer.
All in all, it is not bad but not the best highlighting powder, especially for the price. You can get something like Hard Cardy Tiki that is cheaper and performs better (but still bulky hehehe). I was hoping this would be one that I would reach for everyday but unfortunately it is not.
If you can get it at a good price, it could be a good choice for you to check out, for the amount of product and the sheen you will get but don’t expect it to blow you away.
