I’m looking to step up my brow game. I have naturally thick brows. Currently I use Benefit Gimme Brow but I need a little something extra to fill in the gaps without giving my sharpie brows. Everyone basically loves the Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil but I haven’t tried it yet. It’s $27 and I find it steep for what it is. Insert hunt for drugstore priced solution here… the find Annabelle Skinny Brow Pencil for $8.99!

I chose the shade Universal Dark even though I have medium-light coloured hair. My brows are darker and I don’t find that colour of this pencil to be black. It’s just a deep brown. I like the colour a lot because it doesn’t have red tones in it. My hair colour is more ashy not red so using a brow pencil with red tones makes me eyebrows look like I took a pencil to them! I find this to be an excellent colour match for me 🙂

The finer line is the Annabelle pencil. The thicker line is a Marcelle eyebrow pencil that is more traditional. I’m trying to depict that you can get a much finer stroke with the Annabelle pencil and therefore much more natural looking brow. It doesn’t show very well but in person it looks much better! Also I find the colour of the Annabelle pencil to be a bit truer to eyebrow colours.

In the past I have used more traditional brow pencils and like many beauty reviewers have found that the point is just too thick. Having a thin point really helps you fill in those small gaps without getting product all over. I really love the size of this pencil.

The pencil also includes a little comb at the end of it. It’s useful for brushing out your brows. I have a little brush thing dedicated for this that has more bristles and I kind of prefer that but if I was travelling the little comb that’s included would do the trick!

Overall – great product for less than $10! I’d re-buy it in a heart beat. It lasts all day, goes on naturally and is a great match for my eyebrow colour. I still use my Benefit Gimme Brow gel with it to hold my insane brows in place or for those less makeup days where you don’t want to over do your brow. It’s almost out though and I’d love to find a drugstore alternative that is also cruelty-free (if possible) for it. And of course, keep it under $10 🙂 Suggestions are welcome!

PS When doing some Google searches on Annabelle Skinny Brow Pencil there were some calling a dupe between it and the Brow Wiz from Anastasia. As I said, I can’t make that claim but if it’s true then damn!

  1. I’m a huge fan of Marcelle’s eyebrow pencils. They are pretty awesome. I have blonde hair though, so I can’t comment on the browns. One of the universal light ones is a bit on the red side, while the other is not. (Different pencils. One is a lovely formulation liquid liner and one is a gel + liner). Thus I don’t know if the browns would be on the reddish side too. Though I find it’s not remotely red enough for my strawberry blonde at all lol.

    1. I can’t remember the shade I had in Marcelle’s brow pencil but it was a lighter brown. It has a reddish tone that was close but not a perfect math for me. I have lighter brown hair with gold tones in it, not red! I really liked it. I enjoy Marcelle products overall. I’ve used their mascara off and on for years. Annabelle is completely new to me! I was really pleased with this pencil because it was a perfect match for me and I liked how thin it is. It’s my first time using a thin pencil and I think it looks quite natural. The thin pencil also makes it easy to apply it accurately. Strawberry blonds have such a tough time with eyebrow pencils! I know a few who use eyeliner sometimes!! – Sheena

  2. Did some research and I’m loving the Universal Light. It has a strawberry blonde hue to it. Perfect for my coloring and the price is awesome too. Going to pick one up on Well.ca next time I order. Thanks

    1. I hope it works out for you! I’m a big fan of the price point 🙂 Who can argue with $8.99? If you find a decent drugstore brow gel, let me know. I’m in the market since I’m almost out of my very spendy Benefit Gimme Brow. – Sheena
