On this week’s Yay or Nay Sunday, we are talking about Bite Beauty, my favourite lip brand!
In 2015, Bite Beauty is doing a special monthly release of limited editions shades. They call them the Lip Lab Limited Release Crème Deluxe Lipstick . If you aren’t aware of what is this lip lab, they are talking about, it is a store-front location where customers can go in and make their own custom lipstick! Pretty cool. If ever you are in New York, you must check this out. Sadly, when I went last September, they were all booked up and the only time they had we couldn’t make work in our schedule. Since Bite Beauty is a Canadian brand (hellz yah!) I have seen them have some “pop-up” lip labs in Toronto, Ontario for a limited time.
Straight from the Lip Lab, located in the heart of SOHO, in New York City, BITE sees hundreds of clients monthly and, without fail, can pinpoint emerging color trends. Each month, BITE will create a Lip Lab-inspired, limited-edition run of a stand out shade that is new, fresh, and fashion-forward, with a scent to match. Each cream lipstick is also packaged in a limited-edition red box, with a hand-stamped label that features the shade number and the date it was hand-crafted.
That being said, they are releasing these colours made in these labs for sale to the public. They are very limited quantities and sell out fast. I missed the January one but I was able to get my hands on the February limited colour called 002 Japanese Eggplant, a perfect balance of pink/purple.
As you can see, this colour is a nice pink! Pink is not my favourite lipstick colour, but since I don’t own anything of this colour, I am happy with it. It is a nice Valentine’s Day colour or a nice Spring colour. With a nice taupe-y eye or something… I can’t wait to build looks with it.
This review will be more about the formula of the Deluxe vs the Luminous since you won’t be able to purchase this colour as it is sold out.
But anyway, back to this review… We haven’t mentioned if this is a yay or nay yet! What?!? So here is what I think. I LOVE the Bite Beauty formula, they are creamy, long lasting, super pigmented, smell great and just.. omg amazing. I will qualify this as a Yay with a bit of a Nay… Why? Cause it still has the same wonderful quality of the Bite Beauty lipsticks but I don’t think that the $40 price tag is merited. Their regular Luminous Crème lipsticks are $28 and already that is expensive. So what makes the $40 price tag?? 1) the limited edition colour 2) it’s made from the lip lab and its limited quantities 3) what I did notice is that it is more smooth and silky than the other luminous crème lipsticks I own. It glides on like a dream, one swipe and bam, beautiful colour! Everything else I mentioned about the Luminous ones applies to this one. I only noticed it was more smooth and silky. The smell is the same, the tube is the same, the amount of product is the same….
If you aren’t familiar with Bite Beauty, they are food grade products, which means that you could literally eat these lipsticks and you would be fine. No chemicals.
Here is what they say about the Crème Deluxe Formula and the Luminous Crème.
Created with BITE Beauty’s coveted Crème Deluxe formula, this lipstick is rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins, and offers over 20 amino acids, freshwater pearl, and silk—which have been used in traditional beauty rituals dating back thousands of years. When added to lipstick, this pairing offers natural moisture-adjusting benefits that leave lips softer and more sensuous.
This lip color delivers super antioxidant resveratrol, which fights free radicals with potent long-term anti aging benefits. Each lipstick contains the amount of resveratrol found in five glasses of red wine.
All in all, this is an amazing lipstick. However, if you have never tried the Bite Beauty lipsticks before, I would say don’t go for these limited editions as your first Bite purchase. I just don’t think its worth it. Try their double ended ones first so you can see if you like this formula before investing into this version of the formula which I would call the Luminous Crème lipstick on steriods. lol.
If you are a fan of Bite, these are neat to add to your collection and they do feel great on the lips. I honestly didn’t notice a huge difference but I did notice some.
My recommendation is to not purchase these because you are wanting a limited edition lipstick, but purchase it because you love the Bite Beauty formula and you love the month’s special colour. If you don’t want to dish out the cash for these, then I am sure you won’t be disappointed with the Luminous Crème lipsticks which are $12 less than the Deluxe ones.
Lastly, the Lip Lab Limited Release Crème Deluxe Lipstick is sold exclusively on the Sephora website and each new colour releases on the 1st Wednesday of the month. You will obviously not be able to purchase this colour or the January one but if you are interested, be on the lookout on social media for hints about the colour and when they are to be released. The January one sold out in a matter of a couple of hours and the February one in a day I believe.
Hope you enjoyed this review!
