This month was a toughy. I didn’t spend as much on myself since it was leading up to Christmas time however it was also Christmas Party season and so I found myself reaching for things that weren’t my usuals this past month.
Just to get this out-of-the-way… I’m going to kick off my December Favourites with something that I’ve already talked quite a lot about – Smashbox On the Rocks palette.
Smashbox On the Rocks Palette – I wasn’t going to mention this again but I had to. This has been my go-to party look palette. I’ve made several looks using this palette that are very un-Sheena-like but in a good way. I made a gorgeous eye look using Mink and Framboise for my work Christmas party. I was so proud of it because normally I’d be terrified of those colours! I can’t stress enough how user friendly this palette is for me AND recently I found it on sale at Shoppers. It went from $50 to $35 so I highly recommend people run out and pick it up. Smashbox Photo Op trios are $36 a piece so for $1 less you can have this palette.
Kat Von D Tattoo Liner – My next go-to party look product was the Tattoo Liner by Kat Von D in the shade Trooper. I got it in my Sephora Draw the Line kit back in early November. All through December I’ve been feeling the black liner. It really tops up a great eye look and although I don’t think I’ve mastered the cat eye yet – with this liner I’m well on my way!
Bath & Body Works French Lavender Honey Body Spray – This body spray is amazing. Some times I wear it on its own and other days I layer it under Rose perfume. It soft, sweet and fresh. You can drown yourself in it and it won’t be too over powering. I love it 🙂 I also have the matching body butter and body scrub – all from Bath and Body Works. Nat really got me hooked on that place…
Pur Minerals Miracle Mist Hydrate & Set – Another product that is making a reappearance in my writing! Here’s what happened. I tried this in the summer with a kit I purchased. I liked using it as a setting spray because I felt that it did make a big difference on how long my makeup lasted. In particular my foundation and blush. What I didn’t care for at the time was the texture and the dewy finish so I picked up Urban Decays matte setting spray. I love Urban Decay’s matte setting spray. It’s amazing! However one day I got up in the morning to find my skin particularly dry. It was flaky and looked awful after I had done my makeup. The beer I drank may have had something to do with that… anyway. I had a choice, I could wash my face, exfoliate again and hope for the best, go with no make up or see what happens when I use the Pur Minerals setting spray (which claims to hydrate as well as set). I chose option 3 and was surprised that my dryness went away immediately. No more flakes. I didn’t have to redo my makeup. I had a dewy finish all day but given that it’s winter and not summer it didn’t bother me. I now use this as my setting spray when my skin is feeling grouchy.
E.L.F. Blush & Bronzer Duo – I don’t use the brush but this cheap little duo has been working for me most of December! I like the satin finish on the bronzer and it’s light enough to be used for my winter snowy complexion. The blush could be used as a blush OR you could use it as a highlight which is what I have been doing. It’s a soft pink with gold shimmer in it. I find that it compliments my blushes well without being an overwhelming highlight. I prefer the subtle shimmer for dimension over a stark highlight.
Well once again that’s all I have! I’m sorry if some of my faves were a little repetitive with other posts but truthfully this month I haven’t been buying as much. Of course now that Christmas is over and the sales have begun I’m back to shopping so January should be very interesting!
